Before Private Donald Sloan, 4321 Armitage avenue, enlisted in the army and was stationed
as a radio man in an anti-tank company of the 60th infantry, he was a singer with Dick Jergens' orchestra. He will add dancing to his vocal talents when he is
out of the army again. He now Is assigned to Fort Bragg, N. C, and is operating one of the mobile radio units In a command car, but his eye is to the future.
"I'm learning to be pretty handy with my feet," Sloan explains. " Another Chicago follow and I are practicing a
dance routine and it should be good before we're thru. We'll have plenty of time to perfect it."

"Danny" Sloan, 65, died Nov 12, in a local hospital, He was a 30-year
resident of Las Vegas.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was born Feb. 28, 1922 in
Ireland, and was a bartender for a hotel/casino and member of the VFW in Las
Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy of Las Vegas, son, Todd of
Missouri, and daughter Melane of California.
There will be no visitation. Services and burial will be
private. Bunker Mortuary handled arrangements.

Donald enlisted at Chicago, IL on 1 October 1940.
Pvt Sloan's arrival
in the 508th is not recorded on available morning reports but on 20 June
1944 he was listed in the Service Company morning report as being sick in
quarters. He only returned to duty on 16 July 1984, an unusually long
convalescent period to have been confined in quarters.
Then,
on 22 July 1944 Pvt Sloan was transferred to a hospital. He was
returned to duty two days later and transferred to Hq Hq..
Pvt Sloan was
seriously wounded in action in Germany on 17 February 1945 and evacuated.
On 19 May 1945 he was transferred to the hospital's detachment of patients
and did not return to the regiment. He was discharged from the Army on 25
July 1945.
