On Sunday, June 11, 2017,
Wallace Wendell Smith, Jr., beloved husband of Patricia O. Smith; also
survived by his children by his late wife, Mary E. Smith: Pamela
Stodolsky (late Frank), Wallace W. Smith III (Ladan), Sarah K. Smith
(Robert Davidson), Steuart G. Smith (Dana); and his grandchildren, Sarah
S. Rennie (Eric), Frank Stodolsky, Christian S. Smith (Emily), Patrick
E. Smith, Iain S. Smith (Kelsey), Nathan K. Smith, Alexander K. Smith,
and Matthew K. Smith; and two
great-grandchildren, Hailey E. Gibbs and Henry W. Smith. Also surviving
Mr. Smith are his stepchildren, Anne B. Hulley (David), Emily B.
Naunheim (David), and Robert L.Becker III; eight step-grandchildren; and
ten step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith served in the paratroops in WWII with his twin
brother, Kennedy C. M. Smith who died in action.
Mr. Smith was employed by US Steel but his true passion
was the refinishing of antique American furniture, also researching and
studying the history of antique bird prints and Chinese Export
porcelain. He also derived years of pleasure by listening to Classical
WQED-FM, especially the Jim Cunningham morning show.
A service in celebration of the life of Wallace Wendell
Smith, Jr. will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church on Thursday, June
22, 2017, at 11 a.m. A private burial service will follow at Allegheny
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests
contributions to Calvary Episcopal Church, 315 Shady Ave., Pittsburgh,
PA 15206 or to WQED-FM, 4802 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
