JOHN S. WARN

(courtesy of Eric Crow)

Grave marker for John S. "Jack" Warn in Section O, Lot 35, Space A of the Bethel Cemetery, Cheyenne (Laramie county), Wyoming.

Jack enlisted in the Army at Ft Francis E. Warren, Cheyenne, WY on 26 October 1942.

It is unclear as to when Pvt Warn joined the 508th as some records for 1942 are missing.  However he was listed in the Devils Digest on 17 July 1943 as being amongst those who departed Camp Mackall bound for various unnamed school assignments.

On 11 September Pvt Warn was listed as being placed on jump status, perhaps a reflection of inactivity during whatever training he had undergone.

Pvt Warn was admitted to a hospital on 26 January 1945, possibly for frostbite.  It was not until 3 March 1945 that he was transferred to the Parachute Replacement Regiment at Fort Benning and then admitted to the 315th General Hospital at that sation.

Jack was discharged from the Army on 5 May 1945.

His death on 15 March 1973 was tragic as he was trapped in his car, not far from his home, during a winter storm and died before he could be rescued.
