ROBERT J. WEAVER

Columbarium niche for Robert J. Weaver in the Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton (Hampton City), Virginia.

Robert was a commissioned officer and served as a platoon leader with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.  He jumped into Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and into Holland for Operation Market Garden on September 17, 1944 where he was wounded on the second day of combat.

In December 1944 he trained as a Pathfinder but that skill was never put to the test as the regiment was trucked into the Battle of the Bulge just one week later.

Robert was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star "for exceptional wartime services during operations in the Liberation of France"

 

Married to Jean Marie Daugherty; Served with the 508th Parachute Infantry and went to England and trained [for] the Pathfinders. He jumped with them behind enemy lines in Germany in 1944. [U.S. Army]
