ERWIN H. WELCH

   Ervin Harvey Welch: 94, of Elkhorn, WI died peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1923 in Elkhorn, WI, the son of the late Harvey and Carrie Mae (Churchill) Welch.
   He was united in marriage to Marjorie Brown on December 3, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded Erv in death on February 1, 2017.
   Erv served as a combat infantryman parachutist in the US Army with a tour of duty in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe with the 82nd Air Borne Division from March 13, 1943 to December 31, 1946.
   For over 40 years, he worked with the Walworth County Highway Department, retiring as Sign Foreman in 1985. Erv was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkhorn and active with VFW Post 6375 of Elkhorn.
   Erv was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; who will be deeply missed by his three children; Terry (Kathy) Welch of Delavan, WI, Mark (James Houlihan) Welch of Orlando, FL and Renee Welch of Elkhorn, WI, two grandchildren; Erik (Barbara) Welch of Genoa City, WI and Kevin (Brittany) Welch of Janesville, WI, four great-grandchildren; Colton, Calista, Ethan and Charlie and by a host of other relatives and friends.
   He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Marjorie, 1 great-grandson, Carter Welch, two brothers and six sisters.
   Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday June 20, 2017 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI with Rev. William McBride officiating.
   Burial with Military Honors will be at Hazel Ridge Cemetery Elkhorn, WI.

Pvt Welch was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to Service Company , 508th PIR on 18 September 1944 and as such missed the Holland campaign.

'He was transferred to Company A on 21 November 1944 and promoted top Pfc on 1 January 1945.

His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded for action during  the campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945 and the Good Conduct Medal awarded on 11 July 1945.

He was discharged on 231 December 1945.
