Grave marker for William M. Welch in Bethany Cemetery, Monson (Hampden) county, Massachusetts.

William enlisted in the Army at Hartford, CT on 10 April 1942.

T/5 Welch was transferred to service Company, 508th PIR from Hq 82nd Airborne Division, Leicester, England on 3 October 1944.

On 5 May 1945, he was admitted to the 38th Station Hospital, Chartres, France in Line of Duty classified as a Non-Battle Casualty

On 27 March 1945, he was transferred to the Detachment of Patients at the 38rh Station Hospital and did not return to the regiment.
