(courtesy of Rachel White)

Grave marker for Harold E. Zahn and spouse in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee (Will county), Illinois.

Harold enlisted on the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 14 September 1942.

On 10 October 1944 Sgt Zahn was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne, Leicester, England to Service Company, 508th PIR.  A month later he was transferred to Hq 2nd.

On 25 January 1945,. while on the line in Belgium, he was listed as a "non-battle" casualty but General Order 17, issued on 28 May 1945 awarded him a Purple Heart so the original Morning Report entry must have mis-staed his condition.

On 28 May 1945 Pvt Zahn was transferred to Hq 101st Airborne Division.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during the campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945.
