BELGIUM NEWSLINE (1)

With Parachuters in Belgium
Pvt David B. Rice of Pelican Lake, Wis, rifleman of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment helps [Pvt] Robert L. Keller of Hartsville, Ind. into his pack as the men prepare to move up into action with 82nd Airborne Division in Belgium. [Both men were in Hq 3rd]

Alvin Nunes who was with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment attached to the 82nd Airborne Division during the time of the Ardennes Campaign (Battle of the Bulge) during the last half pf December 1944 is entitled to wear the Belgian Fourragére, a red and green braided cord which is worn around the right shoulder Each member of the division is to receive the recognition as the result of the unit having been cited twice in an Order of the Day of the Belgian Army which authorized the Fourragére 1940.

ROCKY MOUNT SOLDIER
PRAISED BY OFFICER

   Rocky Mount Jan 10--Pfc Karl B. Shearin, 23, local paratrooper who was reported 'missing in action in Holland in September 1944 and then listed as a prisoner of war of Germany has been commended by his commanding officer, Col Roy E Lindquist of the 508th Parachute Infantry.
   In a letter to Mrs. A. A. Shearin Pfc Shearin's mother Colonel Lindquist said: "Your son is a soldier, a hero who has performed his duty as only a paratrooper can for his regiment and for his country. This regiment was awarded the Presidential Citation 'for extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty against the enemy in Normandy, France, June 6 1944."
   You can well be proud of your son's participation and performance."
   Pfc Shearin is married to the former Estelle Turner of this city and he has one son, Bobby. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A A Shearin.
