Grave markers for 2/Lt Richard Philip Sarrett in Section 58 Lot 2 Space 8 of the Rosedale Cemetery, Ada (Pontotoc county), Oklahoma.

Richard enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Oklahoma City, OK on 20 March 1942.  Pvt Sarrett had already completed four years of college and had pursued the Civilian Pilot Training Program while in school.  He was soon commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and went to the Army's flight school.

Lt. Sarrett piloted a C-47 during Mission Boston with a stick of Company E, 508th PIR paratroopers on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

On 24 March 1945 Lt. Sarrett was the pilot of a Curtiss C-46 during Operation Varsity.  He delivered a group of paratroopers to a drop zone just over the Rhine River near Wesel, Germany. The aircraft was hit by flak and caught fire.  Although the other crew members were able to bail out, Lt. Sarrett did not.
