Rex G. Combs enlisted as a Private in Los Angeles, CA on 27 July
1942 and
was trained as a Tank Destroyer at Fort Knox, KY
before his background of having two years of college caused him to
selected to attend OCS at Camp Hood, TX.
. Upon earning his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, he volunteered for
parachutist duty and trained with the
515th PIR.
1st Lt Combs did not ship out with the 508th ... he would not be
assigned to the 508th until 25 April 1944 when he was transferred
from Field Force Replacement Depot #3 on 25 April 1944 to Hq
1st, 508th PIR, then in Nottingham's Wollaton Park.
However, this set of forms would have been required
of all officers prior to departure.

Officers
1. The attached list of clothing and equipment is
required by all officers and Warrant officers assigned The Parachute
School as overseas replacements. All officers will provide
themselves with the prescribed equipment without delay.
2. Equipment and clothing rill be packed so that
articles needed during the movement will be contained in hand
luggage or worn an the person,
3. Paragraph 15a. POR, dated, 1 Oct 43 authorizes
each officer and Warrant officer the following baggage allowance:

REPORT OF PHYSICAL EXAM

This
physical report, although having blanks for multiple facets of
heath, contains very little information. Eyesight was
indicated a 20/20 and blood pressure was 130 systolic and 70
diastolic. An affidavit was also included that he was free of
any communicable and contagious disease at the time of examination.
Basically, he had a heart beat and was breathing, so ship him out! |
