Lt.
Col Mendez leads men of the 508th in physical training (PT)
exercises. The location for this photo is unknown but
Mendez's rank and the fact that the men are bundled up makes Ireland a
likely locale. |
 The note from Frank McKee
gave as much detail as he could recall about the photo at right after the passage of 50 years. |

Setting?
locale of this photo is uncertain but the thatching and winter coats
make Eire a good guess.
Inscription on the back says, "Wilkinson is on left [front row],
then Jake [Arthur Jacoby]."
Ed Wheelock later id'd William Fredrick Knapp of A company as "the
tallest guy with the fur collar. Ed says, "He explained to me
[that his name] was "William" for William the Conqueror and "Fredrick"
for Fredrick the Great. He was a SSgt in A Company and later received a
field commission to 2nd Lt."
Liz Farrell recognized her uncle Martin Teahan as the 2nd from the
left, standing next to Knapp.
All others are unknown but probably are from Hq 1st or other 1st
Battalion companies.
