Paratroopers To Meet Robins In Revenge Game Sunday
Maxton - June 4.--- A revenge game that promises to
be a battle to the finish is set for the Mid-State Cloth Mills park
at Red Springs on Sunday at 3 o'clock when the 508th Parachute
Infantry team at Camp Mackall meets the Flying Robins of the
Laurinburg-Maxton Army Air Base and Red Springs.
In the opening game of the season the Robins defeated the
Paratroopers 6-5 in a 10-inning scrap. The Infantrymen are out
to square the count and a steaming encounter is in prospect.

Pfc.
David J. Phillips la now a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry In
combat training at Camp Mackall, NC. His mother, Mrs.
Henrietta Phillip, resides at 250 West 9th St. Pfc. Phillips Joined
the army Oct. 24, 1942, and won his wings as a United States parachutist
on March 5, 1943

8-1 Sunday Team Licks Flying

Springs. June 8. The 508th Parachute Inf. Regiment of
Camp Mackall gained revenge for an earlier licking by defeating the
flying Robins 8 to 1 here Sunday in a game that saw the Robins held
to 7 hits by Lefty brewer former Charlotte Hornet and Washington
Senator twirler.
The Robins were guilty of faulty base running and made several errors in
the field to contribute to their downfall. Bledsoe and
Watson, pitching for the Robins, allowed 10 hits.
Next Sunday the Robins play the strong Marine team from Camp
LeJeune in Robbins Park. The Marine team composed of former
professional players now in the Marine Corps will put a strong team
on the field.
Mackall -- 8 runs, 10 hits, 1 error.
Robins -- 1 run, 7 hits, 5 errors

To USO Show List
Processional entertainment for the regiment is now
a reality.
Camp Mackall has been placed on the U.S.O show list and in the
future there is a definite [promise of a good deal of top-flight
entertainment. The first of these shows has already been
scheduled (look for the date and place elsewhere in this
publication.) Future engagements will be announced in this
paper.

S. Brand of 32 Tulip Street. Bergenfield. N. J. ; has been assigned here to the 508th Parachute Infantry for combat training. He Joined the Army
June 13 last year and won his wings as a 'chutist September 21.

Paratrooper Spending Furlough At Freeland

--- Pvt. Howard Brent, 508th Parachute troops, Camp Mackall, N. C., is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brent.
Following the Sunday School session in Mt. Zion Methodist church, Sunday, 10:15 a. m., there will be a family circle basket luncheon in the grove, near the Mt. Zion hall. At 9 a. m., there will be preaching by Rev. E. H, Porter.

Clifton (Bro) Ducote who is In the Parachute troop at
Mackall, North Carolina, arrived Monday to spend a few days with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ducote. Friends of Bro's were happy indeed
to greet him.
