Scott D. Kitchen,
son of Charles and Pat Kitchen of Fort
Myers, has been promoted to specialist. He is an Army
infantryman with the 508th Infantry Regiment and is a 1987 graduate
of Cypress Lake Hugh School, Fort Myers.

Collins, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard G. Collins, Collins, 206
Greenbrier Road, was recently assigned to the Panama Canal Zone.
Serving as an automatic rifleman in Company C, 3rd Battalion, 5th
Infantry, Ft. Kobbe, Canal Zone, Specialist Four Collins arrived
here after a tour with the 3d Brigade, 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry, 82d Airborne, Republic of Vietnam. The basic mission of
the U.S. Army in the Canal Zone for more than 50 years has been the
defense of the Panama Canal, the western hemisphere's most
strategically important waterway. waterway. A 1968 graduate of
Muncie Central" High School, Collins worked for Marsh Supermarket,
West Jackson, prior to entering the Army.

Army Sp. 5 Edgar J. Rhodes Jr., whose wife, Joyce, lives in Evansville,
Ind., qualified as expert in firing the high - powered M-14 rifle at
Fort Amador, Canal Zone. The expert rating is the highest mark a soldier
can achieve in his rifle qualification qualification test. Specialist
Rhodes, a senior radar operator with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion
Battalion of the 508th Infantry at Fort Kobbe, Canal Zone, entered the
Army in May 1959 was last stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. Rhodes, 23, is
a1958 graduate of Williams High School. His parents live at 115 Highland
Ave.
