The 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (P.I.R.) was activated at Camp Blanding, Florida on October 20, 1944.  Sixty-two years later, on October 19, 2004, nearly 200 veterans of the regiment and more than 400 family members and friends, formed ranks once again at Blanding to retire the regimental standard.  Once the standard was encased, it was given to the Camp Blanding museum for permanent display.
