PRISONERS OF WAR

The men pictured at left were all eligible to join the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association

A number of the 508th's men were captured by enemy forces during the course of WW-II and each were awarded the Prisoner of War medal.

Some recipients of this award were lucky enough to have escaped from their captor's clutches and returned to fight another day.

Standing: [second from left] Pfc Donald G. Cunningham, [second from right] Howard R. Smith.  Both were members of the 81mm Mortar Platoon, HQ2.
Front: [second from right] Jack Schlegel HQ3.
