PAUL IKIRT'S CARBINE COVER
Found in Normandy long after hostilities ceased, the cover exhibits some rot.  The hand-lettered 'IKIRT" and "Co. D" and even the stamped stock number are quite legible more than 60 years later.

Ikirt is known to have been wounded on D-Day as he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered on June 6, 1944.  His name does not appear again on 508th records (thus far) so his wound may have been so severe that he was med-evacuated all the way back to the States.  (Photos provided by current owner Patrick (last name not known as yet)
