Pvt Bair was killed in action on June 17, 1944 and was initially interred in Plot C, Row, Grave 1, of the Bloisville-Carentan Cemetery, France.  After the end of the war his family elected to have his remains repatriated and he was laid to his final rest in his native Ohio..

Pvt Bair was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart.
