Application for grave
marker for 2nd Lt Charles E. Cain to be installed in the Pine Grove
(aka Simpson) Cemetery,
Pine Grove (Wetzel county), West Virginia.
Lt Cain was transferred to Company E from the 82nd
Airborne Division HQ in Leicester, England on 2 September 1944.
Two weeks later he jumped into combat in Holland.
Lt Cain was initially reported missing in action as of
11 October 1944.but his status was later changed to killed in action on
October 11, 1944. He was initially unidentified and listed as
X-3337. The remains were interred in the Neuville
Temporary Cemetery (now the site of Ardennes American Cemetery and
Memorial) in Plot C, Row 9, Grave 201.
Later identified, his remains were repatriated
to his home area on 14 May 1949.and were accompanied by his cousin, Air
Force TSgt Lawrence D. Cain. Lt Cain was awarded the Purple Heart. |
