PFC CYRIL K. DE VAY

.

Grave marker for Pfc Cyril K. DeVay at Plot A, Row 17, Grave 38 in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France

Pfc DeVay, of Company C, was a prisoner-of-war when, despite the rules of the Geneva Convention,  he was executed by order of a German Major.  Note that the date of death sown as Aug 23, 1944 on the grave marker reflects when Grave Registration retrieved the body.  His date of execution was later determined to have taken place on August 6th.

At least three men of Co C, 508th testified after the war regarding what they knew about Pfc DeVay being shot.  Their testimonies can be read using the navigation bar, above.

Pfc DeVay's military decorations include the Purple Heart.
