the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France
Pfc DeVay, of Company C, was a prisoner-of-war when, despite the
rules of the Geneva Convention, he was executed by order of a German Major.
Note that the date of death sown as Aug 23, 1944 on the grave marker
reflects when Grave Registration retrieved the body. His date of
execution was later determined to have taken place on August 6th.
At least three men of Co C, 508th testified after the war regarding what
they knew about Pfc DeVay being shot. Their testimonies can be
read using the navigation bar, above.
