On
31 March 1934, the Fontana family were listed as being refused entry in
Toronto, Canada but the reason was not stated although an appeal was
noted. It is shown that his father, Eduardo, a tri-lingual music
teacher, was born in Italy and his mother, Maria, was a native of Cuba.
She listed her father Lorenzo Tellez, of San Jose, Costa, Rica as her
closest contact.
The
refusal must have been resolved as on 18 January 1936 Edoardo (16) and
his brother Hector (16), both born in New York City, re-entered
the U.S. from Toronto. The purpose of the trip was not recorded.
Then
on 18 August 1939.Edoardo (age 20) returned to the U.S. from Puerto
Limon, Costa Rica aboard the SS Talamanca arriving in New York City, NY.
He may have been visiting his maternal grandparents. |
