HAVEN KS - Matthew David Huston, 24, died March 1, 2010, at Bala Murghab , Afghanistan. He was born Sept. 9, 1985, in Manhattan, Kan., the son of Phillip and Ronda Anderson Huston. He was serving as a specialist with the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. He had been awarded The Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Basic Parachutist Badge.

On June 4, 2005, he married Whitney Shaffer at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church, Marietta, Ga. He is survived by his wife, Whitney of Raeford, N.C.; his parents, Ronda and Phillip Huston, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Kyle Huston, Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Whitney Huston Sellards, San Clemente, Calif.; nephews, Christopher Sellards and Elijah Shaffer; his grandparents, Earl and Kay Huston, South Hutchinson, Harold and Caroline Anderson, Fairfield Bay, Ark., and Grace and Sheldon Moe, Brookings, S.D.; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Haven Baptist Church, Haven, with Pastor Gary Cox presiding. There will be no visitation. Burial will follow in Laurel Cemetery, Haven, with Jaron Shaffer officiating. Memorials may be made to the Matthew D. Huston Memorial Fund, in care of Hutchinson Credit Union, P.O.
