Jason M. Johnston
ALBION -- U.S. Army Specialist Jason M. Johnston, 24,
stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., died suddenly Dec. 26, 2009,
while defending his nation in Afghanistan.
He was born Dec. 10, 1985, in Rochester to Brad and Jeanine
(Schicker) Johnston and had lived in Albion most of his
life. Jason was a U.S. Army Specialist E-4 serving with the
2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd
Airborne Division, 4th Regimental Combat Team.
He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Holy
Family Parish-St. Joseph's Church, and the Albion Fire
Department. Jason enjoyed country music, cowboy hats, and
liked to sing, dance, and be goofy -- causing people to
smile and laugh. He cherished his friends and his sisters
and had always wanted to be a soldier. Jason loved what he
was doing. He felt it his duty to serve his country.
He is survived by his father, Brad Johnston of Albion, and
his mother, Jeanine Johnston of Albion; his sisters, Carrie
(Travis) Riley, Holly Johnston and Heather Johnston, all of
Albion; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at
the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes Inc., 21 West Ave.,
Albion. Family and friends are invited to gather at 11 a.m.
Tuesday at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Church for
Jason's Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Mount
Albion Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Albion Fire
Department, COVA or the Orleans County Veterans Service
Agency.
