Parents Receive Son's Posthumous Medals
The Military Merit Medal and the Gallantry Cross with
Palm have been awarded posthumously by the Government of The Republic of
Vietnam to Cpl Eric A. Ream. The corporal's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
W. Ream of Schaefferstown received the awards al their home from First
Lt. F. G. Doreger of the United Staler Army Garrison at Indiantown Gap
Military Reservation.
Cpl. Ream, 21, was killed Sept. 26, 1963, while on combat
operations with a unit of the Third Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. A
private first class at the time of his death, he later meritoriously
promoted to corporal.
In addition to the awards from the Government of The Republic of
Vietnam, the corporal's parents previously received their son's other
posthumous awards including the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the
Good Conduct Medals, also, those which he earned prior to his death, the
National Defense Service Ribbon., The Combat Infantryman's Badge, the
Expert Badge with Automatic Rifle Bar, the Vietnamese Service Medal with
one Bronze Star, and the Vietnamese Campaign Ribbon.
Ream was a graduate of the Lebanon County High school and was a
soccer star in high school.

Pfc Ream was killed in action on 26 September 1969 and was awarded the
Bronze Sitar Medal Purple Heart. He was posthumously promoted to
Corporal.
He is honored on Panel 17W Line 011 of the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial in Washington, DC |
