PFC HAROLD H. ROBERTS

Draft registration card for Harold H. Roberts who at the time resided in Buck Shoals Township (Yadkin county), North Carolina.

His mother, Olivia, a resident of Union Grove (Iredale county) was listed as next of kin.

Harold enlisted at Cp Croft, SC on 13 November 1943 and went through basic training and jump school before being sent overseas to England.

On 10 August 1944, Pvt Roberts was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to  Company G, 508th PIR.  He was promoted to Pfc two months later.

While serving in the Holland campaign, Pfc Roberts was listed as having been slightly injured in action on 6 November 1944 .  He returned to duty on the 12th.

But, during the Ardennes campaign, Pfc Roberts was killed in action on 27 December 44.

His military awards include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge, both awarded posthumously

Grave marker application and grave marker for Pfc Harold H. Roberts to be erected in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Union Grove (Iredell), NC.

The application was completed on 19 December 1947 by Arthur Roberts and may reflect the time of his son's burial in the local church cemetery.  Today Arthur (1891-1954) and his wife Olivia (1891-1963) are both buried there as well.
