CAPT LESLIE DALE WINSHIP
Captain Leslie Dale Winship was KIA 1/20/45 in Belgium. He had served in the Ohio National Guard and was commissioned a 2nd Lt when the Guard was activated in October 1940. He transferred to the paratroops in 1941. He went overseas Dec 1943 and was wounded Dec 1944.

Grave marker for Leslie Dale Winship in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware (Delaware county), Ohio.

Leslie D. Winship served as a 1st Lt. in Company I until 2 August 1944 when he was transferred to the 542nd PIR and subsequently to the 509th PIR.  He may have been promoted to Captain while in the 542nd and moved to the 509th to fill a Company commander slot.

Captain Winship was awarded the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster
