Grave marker for SSgt Albert M.
Zardeneta in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale), Glendale (Los Angeles
county), California.
Albert enlisted in the Army in Arizona
on 13 August 1940.
On 6 August 1943 SSgt Zardeneta was
transferred from the Parachute School to Company H, 508th PIR. His
stay with the 508th was brief as on 28 August 1943 he was transferred to
the 990th Replacement Station.
From there he was apparently reposted
to another airborne regiment, perhaps the 504th which suffered heavy
casualties in Italy. He was involved in combat in Anzio Italy,
where he was killed in action on 5 February 1944. |

It can only be fully appreciated on Veterans Day each year.
The Anthem Veterans Memorial, located in Anthem, Arizona, is a monument dedicated to honor the service and sacrifice of U.S. armed forces.
According to the community’s website:
At precisely 11:11 a.m. each Veterans Day (Nov. 11), the
sun’s rays pass through the ellipses of the five Armed Services pillars
to form a perfect solar spotlight over a mosaic of The Great Seal of the
United States.
The website states:
This pillar of pride provides a place of honor and reflection for veterans, their family and friends, and those who desire to show their respects to those service men and women who have and continue to courageously serve our county.
The five pillars represent the unity of the five branches of the United States military serving steadfast together. They are staggered in size with their appropriate military seal placements on each pillar based upon the Department of Defense prescribed precedence. |
