FIRST JUMP
[A letter home by Bob Nobles, Co C]

22 February [1943]

First Jump

5 guys refused to jump out of 673 total that jumped

Lot of guys talking in their sleep.  Rained in morn[ing]. To wet to jump.  Just set around + sweat,  Went down in P.M.  Was about the 7th plane to jump.  24 guys per plane.  12 in a stick.  You can imagine how it felt to step out of a plane at 1200 feet.  Didn't feel much but the shock of opening + a few stars.  Swell ride down,  about a minute.  I was last of 12 to go out.  Soft landing in sand but a lot of burrs. Shook it out and packed it back up at nite.  Out at 9:00.  Really a neat thrill,  Be more fun tomorrow.  Wrote to Bette [remainder of letter unavailable;
