September 14, 1988, Charleston, South Carolina

Located on the historic Charleston shoreline the Marriott venue made a perfect location for not only the traditional reunion events but sightseeing as well.

Across the harbor was Fort Sumter, best known as the site upon which the shots initiating the American Civil War were fired. It is now designated as a National Monument.

Northwest of the hotel (the large white area in the upper left hand corner of the map at left) is The Citadel.  This military college was founded in the early 1800's and is a primary resource supplying the U.S. Army with young officers.  One exception was t the beginning of the U.S. involvement in WW-II.  The cadets were all conscripted and those in their junior and senior years were commissioned.  The Freshmen and Sophomore classes, however, were put into the enlisted ranks. Zig Boroughs (Hq Hq) was one of those who missed out on becoming a commissioned officer.
