The U.S. Government honored the 508th by bestowing the award of the Distinguished Unit Award. This enabled each man in the unit at time covered in the citation to wear the Distinguished Unit Badge. In addition, the Regiment was given the right to add a streamer to its regimental flag staff.
A number of men in the 508th received decorations for gallantry from various nations. In addition, the regiment was cited for its performance in Belgium, France and the Netherlands earning battle streamers to be displayed with the unit colors.
As a consequence of these citations, every man in the unit who served in those campaigns was entitled to wear the Belgian Fourragere, French Fourragere and Order of William Orange Lanyard on his uniform. |
