in knee. Coons, Hottenstein, Johnson, Q (Co H) evacuated.
Div C.O. inspected Bn positions. Pvt Frank Walker rejoined Co I from
US Fld Hosp,
2012 hrs patrol 4 men, Mangers, Hughes _ 2 fr G Co sent out to
recntre orchard + cross road location en field piece.

out 81m to search out gun. S-2 reports arty knocked out mortar
installation 234876 about 2000 hrs.
2100 hrs - outbreak of smal arms + MG fire front of Co H. sector.
They are on alert for our patrol. 2 men rptd thru from Regt -
they are to set up OP vic of Co H CP,
2150 - Bn patrol returned. Firing reported earlier font of Co
H was patrol drawing fire from en. Co H front line gave
supporting fire. Hughes of S-2 sec shot thru hand and
evacuated.
2250 - Lt Alsman w/18 man combat patrol cleared thru sector. |

0046 - C.O. Co H rpts sound of vehicle as if pulling
hy load on road to bridge, Sgt Matthews rpts 0052 sound of
doodle bugs running on road 300 - 400 yds W from Co H mine field.
2 rounds of 81 laid on tgt.
0200 - 0315 - considerable sm arms + automatic wpns fire.
Not Co I men but thought to be (fight one?) Regt
0430 - patrol reptd in w/ only off _ 5 men. 1 patrol member
known dead after fierce fighting. Details later.
0200 - Co I rptd sound of tracked vehicles 400 W of Co position.
0930 - all our wpns opened 1/2 barrage on ey.
0740-0830 - counter shelling (88?) about 75 shells coming from Mag
A2 210-230. Lt Grabbe (Co H) shot thru lung.
Warren Wilt, Co H hit by shrap. Judd (LMG) same. 0930 -
Regt S-2 rpts all their patrol in, 3 wounded, 1000 - Gen Gavin
stopped in to see C. O. 1020 - Regt C.O, in to see Bn C.O,
1430 - Cpl Pace, Pfc Greely Pvt Acosta (LMG) injured and evacuated.
Cpl Pace died very soon. Pvt Richmond, LMG, injured. |
